Unifying our Floodwall & Viaducts

What can we do to improve the appearance of Huntington's floodwall and viaducts? What are you willing to do to create change?

Unifying our Floodwall & Viaducts

I am all about public art. BUT to me I am not sure if putting it on the viaducts & floodwall is the look Huntington is going for. In the new plans for 4th ave. and even already done in Pullman BRICK is used a lot. To me it could be used as kinda the unifying material.

I lived in Dallas for 4 years and you knew you were in a nice area when even their McDonalds & gas stations were brick. A couple of weeks ago I drove to Cleveland for a concert. There were miles and miles of brick walls on the sides of the interstate, it might sound weird but it was beautiful.

I say all this to say that my idea for the Viaducts & Floodwall is to Brick them. Imagine walking under a clean, well lit, safe brick viaduct. I wasn't afraid that something was going to fall on my head!! It would be gorgeous to have the railing made from beautiful wrought iron. Then on the flood wall after bricking them, add a decorative element of maybe a foot of wrought iron at the top.

This is a very classy look that will add a very "Rich" feel to Huntington.

Now, I know brick is expensive, but if we find a brick place in the area and buy enough of it I am sure we can get some sort of deal. Also say we tackled only one viaduct a year, this would kinda spread out the cost without having all that $ due at once. There aren't that many Viaducts. Also just as with other projects WE could do the work and organize work parties. This would cut down on the cost as well.

It bricks sound good on the viaducts, but I have been told that you can not attach anything on the flood wall including, brick, stone or growing vines.
